Frequently asked questions

What do I need to use MyMusic?

A Mac with macOS 12 Monterey or later, or an iPhone or iPad with iOS / iPadOS 15 or later, signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive turned on. MyMusic doesn't include or sell music: it plays the audio files you already own.

How do I add music?
Where is my music stored?

In the MyMusic folder of your iCloud Drive, organised as Artist › Album › tracks. They're ordinary audio files: you can see them in the Finder and in the Files app, and they stay yours even without MyMusic.

Music I added on the Mac doesn't appear on my iPhone
A track takes a while to start

If a track isn't on the device yet, iCloud has to download it first; on a mobile connection this can take a while. Use ☁︎ › Music on iPhone (or Music on iPad) to keep music on the device: it downloads over Wi-Fi and then plays instantly, even offline. There you can also choose which artists and playlists to always keep.

How do I fix wrong tags or artwork?

On the Mac, open the Library tab and click Edit Album Tags. On iPhone and iPad, tap ☁︎ › Library… and tap an album. In both places Find Tags Online searches the iTunes and MusicBrainz catalogues for titles, years and covers.

A soundtrack is split across many artists

On the Mac, use Move to Soundtracks in the Library tab. On iPhone and iPad, in ☁︎ › Library… touch and hold the album and choose Merge: the tracks are gathered in a single album.

How do playlists work?

On the Mac, open the Playlist tab, press + and drag tracks from the right-hand list. On iPhone and iPad, tap ☁︎ › New Playlist, then touch and hold a track › Add to Playlist. Playlists are stored in iCloud too, so you find them on every device and in CarPlay.

How do I use MyMusic in the car?

Connect your iPhone to a CarPlay car: MyMusic shows Playlists, Artists, Albums and Recent. On the Now Playing screen you have −10 s / +10 s, repeat, shuffle and equalizer presets; hold the previous / next buttons to scan.

Which file formats are supported?

MyMusic is designed for MP3 files, including their tags and embedded artwork. It can also add M4A / AAC, WAV, AIFF and FLAC files.

Can I see the welcome tour again?

Yes: on iPhone and iPad open ☁︎ › Help › Show Welcome Again. On the Mac, the guide is in Help › MyMusic Help.
